Sister of Mercy Brisbane Congregation celebrates her 100th Birthday

Sr Mary Jeanne Shoecraft celebrated her 100th Birthday with a small gathering of family, friends and Sisters of Mercy at Bethesda, Mercy Aged Care, Nudgee on 3 August, 2018. Born in Toowoomba, Queensland in 1918, Jeanne was the middle child of eleven children. Her twin sister, Julia, also entered the Brisbane Congregation and they taught in many primary schools throughout the Archdiocese of Brisbane and the Diocese of Toowoomba. Julia (Sr Mary Eudes) died in 2013. In recent months, Jeanne has been recounting stories of her early life, especially recalling the sacrifices her parents made so that their children would have a good education. The many children whom she has taught over her long years of teaching, and their parents and teachers continue to be held in her prayer.  Jeanne says she is grateful to God for her life and especially that she is well and able to enjoy her 100th birthday celebrations.
