Mercy Community Services SEQ Christmas Giving Initiative 2016

Mercy Community Services staff at Wooloowin and Nudgee have united this Christmas to reach out to those in need within our communities. Staff and clients have donated hamper items and presents to ensure those with little resources celebrate Christmas with hope and joy.  This year, staff reached out to their network of friends and family to also make a difference through collecting items for our Christmas Giving initiative.

Staff were very pleased with the amount of outreach achieved, including to some of our own services. Three large food hampers and presents were distributed through MCS Lowood Community Hub to local families in need. A number of gifts for children were distributed through the Zillmere and Goodna offices and to children at Beemar Yumba, Cherbourg.

In partnership with St Vincent de Paul, two food hampers and presents were delivered to the Adopt a Family at Logan and 20 individual hampers were provided for residents at Bowman Johnston Hostel, West End.

Lastly, during our Mercy Reflection Process this year, our MIRP group became aware of the good work of a local charity ‘Cup from Above’, at Aspley http://cupfromabove.com.au/ . The opportunity to provide toiletry packs for the patrons in need has also been met through our donations.

Lisa Eastment, General Manager - Mission integration is very pleased with the initiative and the enthusiasm of staff to get involved and support those in need.
